Shipping to Australia from Dubai

Shipping to Australia is becoming increasingly popular. With it’s great climate, friendly welcoming people, high living standards and diverse and spectacular natural surroundings, towns and cities, Australia is the perfect destination for many. This is why, as of 2021, just over 30% of the population was born overseas.

However, whether you are shipping to Australia from Dubai for the first time, migrating to Australia for good, or repatriating as an Australian citizen. Relocating your home can be a daunting experience as the upheaval of changing Jobs/Lifestyle/Location can be stressful.

What should I prioritise when moving from the UAE to Australia?

When should I start obtaining quotes for my relocation to Australia?

We recommend obtaining your quotes for moving to Australia at least 2-3 months before your target move date.

This ensures enough time to review your quotes and formally advise the shipping company you have chosen, securing your preferred moving dates.

And enough time to arrange your visa/travel/shipping documents and all the other formalities you have to contend with before your move.

Tips for preparing your goods for shipping

Australia is very conscious of biosecurity and wants to prevent diseases and pests from entering the country. This necessitates the cleaning, draining, emptying, and drying of items that have come into contact with food, plants, soil, and any animal products.

Let’s look at some examples:

  • Remove all soil and plant debris from garden furniture, pots, ornaments and tools.
  • Waste bins, brooms, and vacuum cleaners: Remove all waste from these items.
  • Camping gear, such as tents, hammocks or backpacks.
  • Sporting equipment: Football boots, golf clubs/shoes, fishing tackle etc..
  • Clean out/empty your vacuum cleaner.
  • Pet items such as bedding, leads/harness, grooming equipment, cages, and fish tanks.
  • Check furniture and baskets made of materials such as bamboo, rattan, and wicker for signs of woodworm or other pests.
  • Do not include fresh food of any description, even dry foods, and herbs and spices, it is not worth the potential hassle or expense. Especially since there is a high probability you can purchase the same items in Australia.

What is the cost of moving to Australia from Dubai?

The cost of relocating from Dubai to Australia depends on a number of factors. The most important factor is the volume of furniture you are moving. The more furniture you move, the higher cost.

Secondly is the Mode of shipping you choose.

You can choose to move your items in your own shipping container, or if you’re moving only a few items and only a small amount of furniture you could choose a shared container.

This is known as “Groupage” in the moving industry. Of course, sharing a container, or Groupage, is likely more cost-effective than a dedicated container. However, the compromise you make is shipping times can be longer.

Approximate shipping cost options to Australia are as follows:

Full Container (20ft / 40ft) – Starting from AED 13,500 AED

Groupage (Shared Container) – Starting from AED900/CBM

LCL (Less than a container load) – Starting from AED 1,100/CBM

Air (Quickest, Most Expensive) – Starting from AED 30/KG

This is, as mentioned, a general guide, however, you can click here to obtain competitive, up to date quotes, from reputable movers.

How long does it take to ship my goods to Australia?

When estimating how long shipping from Dubai to Australia takes, we have to consider the mode the goods would be travelling in. Air is the quickest and Sea is the slowest.

Approximate transit times

Air Shipment – (4-6 Days)

Sole Container by Sea – (30 – 40 Days)

Part Container by Sea – (50 – 70 Days)

Another consideration when estimating time-frame is processing the shipment and customs clearance in Dubai and in Australia. We would allow up to 1 week at both ends. (Airfreight should take a couple of days at both ends).

Note that Australia can impose quarantine for shipments which can add to the customs clearance times and cost.
